HEADSTRONG
(10" Only) RED/ Numbered/Ltd. to 1000
18th October 1993
Fin - Headstrong
1.Headstrong
2.Trust
3.Lolita
4.Sweet Obsession

Produced by Phil Vinall, this was a mainly gig released 10"
(Support tour with the Tindersticks, cut short when the back were kicked
off the tour for 'being too cheerful!'), the money for which was obtained
from a BBC payment (apparently, a tune by the band had been
used in a TV programme accidentally, and the BBC paid for the single in exchange).
Brilliant 10", fabulous tunes, recording's a bit thin, but it still shines through...

NARCISSUS
(CDS/?) RED
14th February 1994 (REDCD0002)
Fin - Narcissus
1.Narcissus
2.Junk Male (Evening Session Version)
3.Positive

3 seperate recording sessions (With 'Junk Male' coming from the Evening Session session recorded 30/10/93), great single, not as much punch as Headstrong perhaps, but still well worth picking up..

SKIN EP
(CDS/12" Promo), FROMAGE ROUGE
28th November 1994 (Redcd0003)
Fin - Skin EP
1.Moisurizer
2.Beneath My Skin
3.Love Me
4.Fade

My fave EP post Headstrong, the first track is a punchy blast of summery indie guitars, balanced off by the cello led "Beneath My Skin" with it's heartache and slow build...

JETSTREAM
(CDS/?) FROMAGE ROUGE
6th March 1995 (Fromcd004)
Fin - Jetstream
1.Jetstream
2.Summer
3.Decision (acoustic demo)
4.Headstrong (live)

Presumably the last single, although the Radio 1 transmitted live gig broadcast soon after had a couple of new tracks in it....again summerly guitar blasts, though this time (the 1st), the B-sides weren't up to much....

ALBUMS

POSITIVE

(FROMAGE ROUGE, From005)
1995
Fin - Positive
1.Jetstream
2.Beneath My Skin
3.Headstrong
4.Moisturizer
5.Decision
6.Narcissus
7.Fade
8.Positive

A compilation of tracks meant as a run up to the full album, all tracks are taken from the singles. A nice introduction!

LP ????
?????

According to the back of Positive, there was an LP being
recorded in the summer of 1995..
According to Philip Thomas this was never recorded.

RADIO ONE LIVE GIG
(Not an official release!)

1.Headstrong
2.Jetstream
3.Moisturizer
4.Beneath My Skin
5.Seed

I taped this in FM Stereo at the time.
'Seed' was announced as a new song and certainly I've no copy of it on anything else.
BUT, it's the only live recording I know of, apart from the one track found in.....

2.LUXX - This Feeling
3.FIN - Shot By Both Sides
4. PERFUME - Joga (New Version)

Heard about this long after everything else!
'Shot by both sides' is a cover of the Magazine song.

PROMOS

Moisturiser
12" Only
Fin - Promo

Identical to the CD single in terms of tracks.
A nice addition to the discography, though.

UPDATE!

Phil mailed me (August 2003) to fill in some gaps!
"Fin did have a cover version of Magazine's 'Shot By Both Sides' included on a 6 track compilation CD called Monarchy In The UK in 1994. IT was put out to coincide with a week of gigs at The Monarch, Camden (now Barfly) and the six bands on the CD were all playing that week, along with Skunk Anansie and Catatonia if I remember right........."

NOTE: I've got the mail address now if anyone wants one.
The Cd also contains a track by Perfume.

Demo wise, there were a couple pre Headstrong ep. They were produced by ex Members drummer Adrian Lillywhite, brother of Steve who was a that time managing the band, and included tracks such as Give Me The Gun, Wonderful World & Sweet Obsession but can't remember the other tracks and my copies have long since worn out and been lost.

There are various live recordings and videos knocking about but were never made available to 'outsiders'. The best of which is a live video shot at The Astoria in London supporting The Cranberries from around early 1995 I think.

There are however videos for Headstrong, Narcissus which at the time of release were heavily shown on both terrestial and cable tv stations. These were with Alan McAteer on bass who was replaced by Stella in 1995.

The album that your webpage referred to however was never recorded."

So now we know! Thanks again to Phil.

But that's all there is as far as I know, I'm afraid......more help would be much appreciated...
E-mail me with anything you have!
